How to Pay for a Car Rentals Online from a GigaOM
A number of online car rental websites, including Payless Car Rentings, have been shut down due to allegations of fraud.
The Gigaom article According to the website, car rentals are now available at nearly all of the sites.
However, it is not yet clear if the sites will remain open after the shutdown.
In the meantime, the Gigaome reports that a number of car rental companies, including CarRental, Payless, and Carrentals, are currently unavailable.
Payless announced on Wednesday that it will no longer operate as a car rental company.
CarRotor said in a statement that it is cooperating with authorities in investigating the allegations.
According to Gigaomer, Payly’s shutdown follows similar cases in the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands.
The sites’ website lists an extensive list of car rentals in the cities in which it operates.
According the Giaom, it’s unclear how many car rental sites are currently offering the services.
Carrental, which was created by German car rental site Payless in 2014, has been a fixture in the U.S. for years, offering car rental services in nearly every state in the country.
In January, a judge in Florida blocked Payless from operating as a vehicle rental company for three years after a jury found the company liable for failing to properly investigate car rental fraud.
On Wednesday, Gigaoms report says the authorities in the Netherlands have also launched a criminal investigation into CarRrental.
Carrrental said in its statement to Mashable that it was “extremely disappointed by the news that the company is shutting down.
It is important that this matter is resolved quickly.”
According to Payless’s website, the company’s car rental service was able to secure $6 million in funding in March, which helped it pay its debt of $5 million.
The company had previously raised $1.8 million in a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, but that raised only $4,000 as of Wednesday morning.
Payfree said in the statement that the closure of the websites is the result of “an investigation conducted by the local authorities of the Netherlands regarding allegations of criminal activity by CarRentals staff.”
Payless says it will continue to provide the services to car rental customers worldwide, including in countries that have a high percentage of foreign nationals.
