The new ‘Star Wars’ movie is just the latest in a long line of bad movie choices
Australia is about to get another big-screen adventure.
The Star Wars movie has been approved by the Australian government for release on July 15, 2018, the same day as the anniversary of the first-ever Australian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is scheduled to have a theatrical release on December 15.
In addition to the movie, the new Disney movie will also include a sequel and a spin-off, which will include new characters and a new story.
The movie, which stars Daisy Ridley as a young woman named Rey, will star Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, Andy Serkis, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong’o. It was directed by Rian Johnson and will feature an all-star cast of new and returning actors.
Star Wars will be the first major-budget film to have an Australian release date.
The first installment, released in 2015, had its Australian release pushed back to January 9, 2021, following an international blackout.
The second installment, titled “The Force Awakens,” was released on December 18, 2019, and opened in Australia on December 23, 2020.
The third film, titled Star Wars: Episode VIII, was released in December 2019.
“We’re delighted to announce that Star Wars will become a part of the Disney World Resort and the theme park experience for guests of all ages,” Disney spokeswoman Anna Zellner said in a statement.
Disney said the film will be accessible to all ages and that “the new adventures are inspired by the excitement of the franchise.”
Disney also said the movie will have a new voice cast that includes Harrison Ford (who will be reprising his role as Kylo Ren), John Boyce (playing Poe Dameron), Adam Driver (playing Finn), Andy Serkiens (playing Yoda), Oscar Isaac (playing Darth Vader), Lupita Lupita (playing Princess Leia) and Daisy Ridley (playing Rey).
The new movie will be released in a two-week window, starting on Christmas Day and ending on the same date each day of the week for three months.
Disney said it plans to offer special offers and discounts for Star Wars fans throughout the month of July.
While some might be disappointed by the date, the timing of the release could not be more appropriate, according to Star Wars fan Chris Riddell.
We’re excited about the film’s arrival, and we can’t wait for all of you to see it, he told ABC Radio Adelaide.
