How to get a car rental in Seattle
Car rental companies in Seattle have been flooded with inquiries about how to get cars on the road.
Car rental company CarRental Seattle said it’s now accepting applications from renters interested in getting a rental car, including for the city’s downtown.
“We’ve had over 1,000 inquiries from renters for the past few weeks,” CarRrental spokeswoman Rebecca Dube said.
“It’s been very popular.”
CarRentals is a small company that rents cars to individuals and small businesses.
In March, it opened its first car rental center in downtown Seattle, a few blocks from its office.
The company also recently announced a $1.2 million investment in a new downtown parking garage.
CarRotters also operates a fleet of pickup trucks, vans and SUVs.
The pickup trucks are available for rent at $3 per hour and are leased for a period of two weeks, with the next two weeks free.
The van is for rent for one week and for $5 per hour.
Car rentals in the Seattle area typically range from $15 to $30 per hour, with an average of $10 per hour for a one-hour rental.
Dube didn’t provide a list of what car rental companies have been accepted.
Seattle-area apartment complexes also have offered car rentals to renters for months.
Renters can pay for a car through CarRite, a rental service that allows renters to reserve a car online.
Car Rentals, however, has been slow to respond to new requests.
Car Rites has about 10 employees, including a tech support manager and a customer service rep.
It has about 200 cars available to rent in the area.
Carrentals in the central Seattle area also have had to scramble to accommodate demand.
Carlease, a car renting company, said it was in the process of expanding its service to the city.
The expansion was delayed a couple of months, but now it’s available to more than 200 apartments in the city, including apartment buildings.
Renting cars is not a new service.
Car rented vans and trucks have been available to renters in Seattle for years.
In the mid-2000s, the city banned commercial use of cars for private purposes, which was later overturned by a federal court.
The new city ordinance was designed to make cars more accessible to renters.
“In a lot of ways, we’ve been ahead of the curve on this,” said Richard Larkin, who heads up CarRites’ downtown Seattle office.
“There were a lot more people renting cars, so the city had to be able to respond quickly.”
In 2016, the Seattle City Council banned commercial car rentals.
It’s been two years since that policy was overturned.
