How to choose a car rental in Asheville
The car rental industry in Asheville, Tennessee is booming, with the state having nearly 70,000 rental units available, according to the Asheville Rentals Association.
But the city of Asheville, located in a mountain resort town, also has one of the country’s highest rents, with average monthly rental costs topping $1,400, said David Wurster, the group’s president.
“We’re seeing this boom in the car rental sector,” he said.
“But it’s not a boom we’re going to sustain.
We have to be proactive and make sure that we’re getting the best value for the money.”
Asheville has become a hotbed for rental-car companies.
The Asheville Regional Council is home to about 25 car rental companies, many of which are owned by companies like Nissan, Hertz and Zipcar.
Car rental companies are required by the city to pay at least 20 percent of their rental rates to the city.
In the first half of 2016, Asheville recorded $1.9 million in property taxes paid to the government.
A new law passed last year requires rental companies to post a $1-per-hour rate for cars rented by residents.
The law also requires companies to rent cars to the public at no cost.
“It’s a big win for our residents,” said Richard J. Johnson, the mayor of Asheville.
“This is a good way to encourage the rental industry.”
The city’s economy has boomed since the economic boom that began in the late 1990s.
Asheville’s economy grew from $12.6 million in 2010 to $36.5 million in 2016, according the city’s economic development department.
It also has seen a massive population boom that has helped Asheville to grow the region’s economy.
The city recorded more than 2.3 million new residents in the first nine months of 2017, up about 11,000 from the same period last year.
Asheville has seen an uptick in the number of jobs in recent years.
The average monthly income for Asheville’s residents was $3,000 in 2017, the highest in the state.
The number of people working in the city is also on the rise.
In 2017, about 9,400 new jobs were created in the Asheville area, according a report released last year by the state Department of Commerce and Industry.
The department said the state’s job growth rate has been higher than the national average, which is 7.7 percent, but that the trend is trending upward.
A recent analysis by the Census Bureau found that Asheville’s job population increased by about 8,000 between January and December.
That growth is partly due to the growth of jobs outside the city, according at the Asheville Housing Partnership, which has helped fund rental-center expansions.
“The biggest change in the economy has been the number and variety of jobs that have been created outside of the city,” said Jason Williams, the alliance’s executive director.
The alliance is helping to attract the car-rental companies, including the leasing companies and car rental services, by offering incentives and other incentives, including tax breaks.
“If we’re looking to make this a viable and attractive option for our community, we’re doing a lot of outreach, especially with the car rentals,” said Williams.
Williams said he is trying to get as many companies to participate in the program as possible, especially in areas where the government has a lower number of cars.
The coalition has also partnered with a few local businesses and the city itself to try to increase the number that are participating.
In February, the Asheville City Council voted to expand the city-owned parking lot in front of the Asheville Airport and put up temporary signs in order to encourage car rental businesses to open up.
“There are a lot more car rental centers in the area than people realize, especially if you consider what’s happening with housing prices,” said city council member and city economic development commissioner Ken Ritchie.
“As a result, we want to be as helpful as possible to the rental companies and make it easier for them to advertise and find parking spaces.”
Williams said the group is planning to create a new ad campaign that will feature the slogan, “We are not going anywhere.”
Asheville also has the lowest cost of living in the region.
The median price of a home in the City of Asheville is $5,947, according an April 2017 report by the Real Estate Council of Greater Asheville.
The lowest cost in the county is $4,723.
But even in areas with high housing prices, residents have been finding ways to make ends meet.
According to a report by National Housing Analytics, the median household income in Asheville was $53,500 in 2017.
That is more than $12,000 higher than in the surrounding county of Henderson County, which had a median household salary of $53 in 2017 but had an income of $48,100.
